Hi.

Welcome to my site. Sometimes I blog about my sewing.

If I’ve learned nothing else in MetaJail it’s that Zucker controls your content.

So here we are.

Gabriela, Chalk and Notch Patterns designer, very kindly gifted her latest release, Den, to me without any obligations. Of course I was going to sew it up! I’m a huge fan. But I needed to feed my crochet-hungry brain first. (So several crochet projects later…) I needed to pick a fabric.

Gabriela had polled the community as to whether they wanted lining pieces to be included. How thoughtful of her to ask, eh!? I was in the camp voting for a lining because I had recently picked up a quilted cotton velvet on Etsy with exposed batting. Long story short, I picked a different stash fabric.

Enter a rather heavy “double faced” cotton jacketing.

Today, March 27, I managed to cut everything out (size 8) and fused the interfacing. I waffled a bit on which length to make, ultimately opting for the longer, hip length view. My initial instinct must have been to cut the crop version. Because I noticed during cutting the side pocket pieces were labeled for the crop view. Too lazy to print the correct pieces, I went ahead with cutting the smaller ones out. Will they proportionally seem off? Time will tell!

Second sewing session, March 29th.

I got through most of the major construction, up through closing the side seams. This heavy jacketing won't exactly hold a press. So I'm not sure how some of the more intricate details will go.

I stubbornly blazed ahead with the smaller side pockets and left the patch pockets off. I think I'm liking these proportions!

I've been finishing the seams with my trusty serger, but, lazily, didn't change the threads to match…so maybe I want to add a lining? I'm going to ponder that a bit.

To be continued…
